OPEN CINEMA’S PARALLEL COMPETITION
Main competition apart there is a PARALLEL competition short-list, made up of films have been sifted out by the Jury, but haven’t scored enough points. These movies are divided into theme sections, named GREAT EXPECTATIONS, OTHER LANDS, NO ANAESTHESIA, and will be judged separately by its Alternative Jury. Dignified style of big screen movies serves as criterion for Main competition’s "academic" sorting. Parallel hallmark is quite the reverse. Conciseness, singularity, comicality, provocative element and firmness are distinctive features of theme section movies. Both experts and amateurs will find Parallel program to their liking.
FINALISTS OF OPEN CINEMA 2010 COMPETITION ANNOUNCED
The short list of movies participating in OPEN CINEMA 2010 competition program was announced today. The Expert Council selected finalists that will compete for the main prize of the Festival in four nominations: fiction, non-fiction, animation and experimental video & video art. The competition program now includes 18 fiction and 11 non-fiction movies, 15 animation works and 16 video art and experimental videos (the experimental part also includes 8 music videos).
Dear film-makers! Don’t get upset in case you didn’t find your name in the list. The official program of the festival has also special programs and many of your works may appear there. The whole list of participants will be announced soon!
TCM CHANNEL BECOMES THE OFFICIAL PARTNER OF OPEN CINEMA 2010
OPEN CINEMA-TCM’s friendship appeared intentionally. In 2010 world cinema is celebrating Hollywood’s 100 anniversary. This subject matter has united both "friends". Undoubtely, the jubilee topic will be reflected in festival’s program. Special occasion, dedicated to Hollywood, is now being planned by OPEN CINEMA and TCM directors. It will take place on September, 3 - the same as the openinng party.
There are more than 5000 american and european films in Turner Classic Movies collection - from hollywood’s Golden age till the end of XX century. But it’s not just about well-known masterworks. Experienced cinemalovers will be lured by exclusive documentals and interviews with "dream factory" creators. Channel’s motto is "No simple watching - feel the cinema together with TCM".
Working partnership between national film forum and international television is set in russian film festival history for the first time.

EXPERT COUNCIL IS ABOUT TO DETERMINE THE MAIN TOPIC OF THE FESTIVAL
Every day work of the Festival team becomes more and more intensive. The creation of competition programme is about to be finished. The selection is guided by Irina Evteeva (film director, Candidate of Fine Art, SPbSUCT professor), Ludmila Lipeiko (president of Open Cinema festival), Gleb Borisov (film critic, “5-tv.ru” web-site editor), Tamara Larina (director of Open Cinema festival).
The members of Expert Council said: “It is now too early to talk about subject trends of the future programmes. It seems that the topic of men and women relationship is going to lead the whole competition programme”.

THE SUBMISSION IS NOW FINISHED AND SELECTION ROUND HAS STARTED. The organizing committee of ISAFF OPEN CINEMA closed the submission process of the applications from filmmakers participating in this year’s International Competition. Many letters, packages delivered by express mail almost «overflowed» our office. We’ve already received more than 800 unique works and we look forward to getting the rest of them in the near future. Filmmakers from 33 different countries applied for the Festival competition - this year New Zealand, Sri-Lanka and Pakistan joined the list of countries taking part in the OPEN CINEMA.
The list of all films selected for the official programme of the Festival will be announced on the 15th of July. The committee is now starting the selection. We would like to thank all the participants who paid attention to our Festival! Good luck to everybody!
A short list will be published on this website. As well all filmmakers will receive personal notifications by e-mail.

SUBMISSION PERIOD IS PROLONGED UNTIL 15 JUNE, 2010
Dear film makers and producers! During the recent period of time the organizing committee of ISAFF OPEN CINEMA has received numerous questions about the possibility to prolong the submission period for those who would like to take part in International Competition 2010. Taking them into account as well as possible delays in delivery of the post sent by airmail, the organizing committee decided to postpone deadlines till 15 June.
So the last day in order to fill in on-line submisson form is 15 June 2010. Deadline for sending a film itself is 15 June 2010 too (post stamp on the package will become the evidence that a film was sent in time). Good luck!
